Stretching is essential. Look for the stretch guides in self or at self.com, or women's muscle & fitness mags. Stretching improves blood flow, flexibility, performance, and avoids injury. Don't bother investing in a workout with stretching first and after!

I heard that it is best to stretch after. I know when I was younger and played a lot of sports they had us stretch before and after. Now when I work out I just stretch after. I would think it depends on what activity you are going to do to determine when you should stretch.
