I love to cook and thought I would pass along some things that I have learned or come across to healthier cooking.

Instead of oil in a cake recipe for example try using applesauce.

If a recipe calls for sugar try splenda instead.

Egg beaters are 0 fat and they make different flavors like garden veggie, southwestern and cheese and chive. Instead of regular eggs try these.

When a recipe calls for flour to bread something try cornmeal.

When cooking rice or couscous instead of using water to boil them in try reduced sodium-fat free beef or chicken broth for added flavor. That way you may not have to add butter or other things to flavor.

Summer is coming take advantage of grilling as much as possible. Not only grill meat but also fresh vegetables.

These are great tips. I use whole wheat pasta and brown rice instead of reg. pasta and white rice. I also use an extra light extra virgin olive oil. Somtimes I even use non-stick cooking spray in a pan to cook vegetables instead of oil. I use the fat free-low sodium beef and chicken broth to make home made soups instead of the boullion cubes which have a lot of sodium in them.

Thanks for posting these tips. I cook for myself and not as often as I want and as a guy I don't always know the neat little tips that other people who cook more often might know. I really want to cook healthy things and sometimes I just don't know how. I love fish and breading it in the cornmeal sounds great. I have never tried egg beaters, I will definitely have to look for them the next time I fly through the grocery store.

Gee..cooking healthy is nothing but pure common sense.

There are no ..tricks...

And as a single guy gymrat..it doesnt take that much to grill up a chicken breast or throw some veggies in some boiling water.

As far as Egg beaters??...Unless you have a cholesterol issue..they suck!!

just my opinion
